My Dog is Itching
The condition that probably causes the greatest frustration to dog owners, dogs and veterinarian alike is chronic itching and scratching. There are a number of underlying causes of itching but one of the most common causes are allergies to things such as fleas, house dust mites, pollen and foods. In the past, we have used either cortisone, which, although cheep and effective, has some major side effects, or cyclosporine, which has minimal side effects, but is slow to take effect, and for all but the smallest dogs, the price is limiting.
We now have a drug called
Apoquel
which acts directly on "Itch pathways", without the possible side effects of cortisone.
If you have a dog with ongoing skin problems, please fill out the form below and we will contact you to arrange a consultation to ascertain whether Apoquel may be of benefit to your dog.
