About the Highfield Timaru clinic

Your Timaru Vet Clinic – Caring for Pets and Farm Animals Across South Canterbury

Aorangi Vets Highfield Timaru has been part of the local community for generations, providing veterinary care for companion animals and farm livestock across Timaru and the wider South Canterbury region. Our newly refurbished clinic on Highfield is one of the most well-equipped vet practices in the area – BESTPRACTICE® accredited and Cat Friendly certified, with separate waiting areas and consulting rooms for cats and dogs to make every visit as comfortable as possible.

Whether you’re bringing in the family dog for a check-up, a cat that needs dental work, or you’re a farmer looking for practical herd health advice, our team is here to help.

Our companion animal team is passionate about pets and treats every patient with the same care they’d give their own animals. We provide a full range of small animal veterinary services, including:

  • Preventive health programmes – vaccinations, parasite control, and wellness checks for pets of all ages
  • Dental care – professional dental cleaning, extractions, and oral health assessment
  • Advanced diagnostics – in-house laboratory, digital x-ray, and ultrasound
  • Surgical services – routine procedures including desexing, and more complex soft tissue surgery
  • Senior pet care – tailored health monitoring and management for older dogs and cats
  • Nutrition advice – guidance on premium pet food and prescription diets, with products available in clinic

Our farm animal team delivers practical, preventive veterinary advice and services for dairy, sheep, beef, and deer operations across South Canterbury. We work alongside farmers to support herd health planning, reproductive performance, and day-to-day livestock management – not just when things go wrong.

Rural services from our Timaru clinic include:

  • Herd health planning and farm visits – regular on-farm support tailored to your operation
  • Reproductive services – pregnancy testing, mating support, and fertility investigations
  • Dairy services – mastitis management, dry cow programmes, teat sealing, and milk quality support
  • Sheep and beef services – drenching programmes, scanning, vaccination planning, and metabolic disease prevention
  • Veterinary certification – transport certificates and export health documentation
  • After-hours rural emergency cover – for calving difficulties, prolapse, and acute livestock illness

Our Timaru clinic is located in Highfield, with easy access and ample parking. The recently refurbished reception and consulting areas are designed to make visits efficient and stress-free for both pets and their owners. We stock a wide range of premium pet nutrition products and farm veterinary supplies, so you can pick up what you need while you’re in.
