Maree Anderson, from Waimate, shares her experience with Aorangi Vets after her 13-year-old cat, Lilly, underwent dental treatment.
“Lilly had been off her food for several days, only drinking small amounts of water, and I was really worried about her health. She was still bright in herself, but I noticed she would go to eat and then hiss at her food, which wasn’t like her at all. I also saw some vomit in the house, but initially, I thought it was from our other cat who often has furballs. However, I couldn’t rule out Lilly, so I decided to take her to Aorangi Vets for a check-up.
“The team at Aorangi Vets did a thorough examination of Lilly and suspected that dental disease was the cause of Lilly’s lack of appetite and told me she had quite a severe infection. They advised a course of antibiotics and pain relief to help clear the infection and hopefully get Lilly eating again before proceeding with dental surgery.
“I was relieved to see her eating a little bit the next day, so after doing some pre-anaesthetic blood tests to ensure she was in good health we proceeded with the surgery. The surgery itself involved several extractions plus a scale and polish of her remaining teeth. I was a bit nervous about her undergoing surgery at her age, but the staff kept me informed and reassured me throughout the process. Afterwards, Lilly was sent home with pain relief for any discomfort.
“The difference in Lilly’s health since the surgery has been remarkable. Her mouth has healed beautifully, and she’s been eating again with no issues. We returned for a post-op check-up, and the vet was pleased with her progress. Lilly has since put on weight, is eating lots, and is well and truly ‘back to our Lilly.’
“I’m so thankful for the wonderful care provided by Aorangi Veterinary Services. The team are always so friendly and they provide such good treatment that I won’t go anywhere else.”
