Aorangi Vets Highfield clinic is Best Practice accredited.  To achieve this standard we must pass a rigorous audit process designed to cover all of the areas of Veterinary care, ensuring that we meet the highest industry standards.

Our team of skilled staff, nurses and veterinarians have a wealth of knowledge and experience.  They care greatly about the health and wellbeing of your animals and will ensure that you receive the very best service.  

We have a full range of companion animal products, quality pet food, flea treatments, shampoos and other pet care requirements. Our well qualified and helpful staff will be able to give advice on the best product for you.  

We also stock quality farm veterinary supplies for sheep, cattle, and deer.  Our range is based on sound science and great advice.  

We’re very proud of our newly refurbished reception area and consult rooms, equipt with separate waiting areas for cats and dogs to help make your visit to us as stress free as possible.

Peter Crawford

(BVSc)

Veterinarian

Pete joined Aorangi Vets in 2017, bringing with him a wealth of experience from working in New Zealand, Australia, and the UK since graduating from Massey in 2003. He has a strong background in dairy, sheep, beef, and deer farming, with a particular passion for farm consultancy and developing animal health plans. Outside of work, Pete enjoys time with his partner and children, and runs a small farm in Cannington where he grazes sheep and cattle.

Emily McGimpsey

Veterinarian

Emily grew up on a farm in West Otago and graduated from Massey University in 2018. She has been part of our team ever since and is now skilled in both production and companion animal work. When not working, Emily enjoys kayaking and has embarked on paddling adventures in South Africa, as well as spending time abroad working as a locum in the UK.

Meg Catherwood

(BVSc)

Veterinarian

Meg graduated from Massey University in 1993 and has worked in mixed animal practices in New Zealand and the UK. She has extensive experience across all areas of veterinary medicine and is a valued member of our team. In her spare time, Meg juggles life with three busy children and enjoys contributing to her local community through various volunteer roles. She has a particular interest in the health and well-being of aging companion animals.

Trudi Power

(BVSc)

Veterinarian

Trudi grew up on a small block in the Waikato and relocated to South Canterbury after graduating as a veterinarian in 2022. She loves working in the companion animal clinic, providing one-on-one care to both furry friends and working dogs. On her days off, Trudi enjoys exploring the outdoors with her dog, tending her garden, and spending time with family and friends.

Zani van Rooyen

(BVSc)

Veterinarian

Zani graduated in 2008 from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and began her career as a mixed animal veterinarian in Rustenburg. She moved to Christchurch in 2017 and worked as a companion animal vet before joining our team in Highfield, Timaru, in 2021. Zani is now settled in the area and enjoys getting to know her clients and the local community. Outside of work, she shares her home with her family and a variety of pets.

Sam De Vries

Clinic Manager/Veterinary Nurse

Sam completed a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing at SIT in Invercargill in 2009 and has been with Aorangi Vets since 2010. She is a skilled and caring surgical nurse with extensive knowledge across all areas of animal care, and now leads our Highfield clinic as Clinic Manager. Outside of work, she enjoys singing and is passionate about horses.

Ange Cuthbertson

Veterinary Nurse

Ange is a veterinary nurse who primarily works in surgery, providing skilled and compassionate care to every patient she treats. She takes pride in delivering a high standard of nursing and supporting the smooth running of the clinic. Outside of work, Ange enjoys spending time with her family and being involved in her local community.

Courtney Norton

(BVTech)

Veterinary Nurse

Courtney graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Technology in 2017 and began her career in Tauranga, where she worked for five years before spending a year in the UK. She has since joined our team as a veterinary nurse and brings a wide range of experience to the role. Outside of work, Courtney cares for her growing collection of animals, including two dogs, two cats, two horses, sheep, and chickens. She also enjoys snowboarding and exploring the outdoors.

Danielle Weeks

Veterinary Nurse

Danielle completed a Bachelor of Veterinary Technology at Massey University and began her career in a mixed animal practice. She then spent two years in Wellington working as an animal welfare inspector for the SPCA, before returning home to Timaru. Danielle is now a valued member of our veterinary nursing team and has a special interest in pain relief and local anaesthesia. Outside of work, she is a keen wakeboarder and skier.

Mel Lawson

Mel works at our Highfield clinic, supporting the nursing team and providing care for every patient she treats. In her spare time, she enjoys long walks and adventures with her dog Rosie, who inspires her passion for veterinary nursing.

Brooke Dillon

Receptionist

Brooke works at our Highfield clinic, where she enjoys her busy front-of-house role and helping people and their pets. She takes pride in providing a friendly and organised service to everyone who visits the clinic. Outside of work, Brooke is kept busy as a mum to her two children and enjoys spending time with her cats.

Jude McDougall

Jude has over 20 years of experience in the veterinary industry and brings a wealth of knowledge to our Highfield practice. You’ll often meet her at reception, where she enjoys helping people and their animals, and she also manages administration, customer service, and coordination behind the scenes. Jude takes pride in keeping the clinic running smoothly and supporting both clients and colleagues.

Kate Peck

Client Liasion Officer

Kate works at our Highfield clinic and is qualified as a veterinary nurse. She now focuses on client liaison, based at the front desk, providing a friendly and organised service to our farm clients. Kate enjoys building strong relationships with clients and helping ensure their experience at the clinic is smooth and welcoming.
