Best Practice for Weaning Calves: Parasite Management Tips
Posted in: Dairy Animal Services

Weaning can be a stressful time for calves, leaving them vulnerable to parasites. Protecting them now supports growth and herd health.
The article below from Alleva Animal Health shares practical tips for managing parasites in weaned calves.
Impressive formula for weaning calves this season
The mad rush of calving season is winding down for the year, but with mating about to begin and spring cropping underway across the country, parasite protection in weaned calves often doesn’t get the attention it deserves at this time of year.
Due to stress and undeveloped immunity during the weaning transition, calves are very susceptible to parasitism from both gastrointestinal parasites and coccidiosis. The result can have an impact on growth rates during this time while calves immunity to coccidia infection is developing.
The team at Alleva Animal Health developed a world-first formula specifically designed for weaned calves called TURBO® Initial. The oral drench provides worm parasite coverage, as well as helping to protect against coccidiosis. This combination helps provide protection during the vulnerable period after calves come off coccidiostat- treated meal onto pasture while supporting the development of their natural immunity to coccidiosis.
TURBO® Initial is available exclusively through veterinary practices nationwide and is recommended as the first drench for weaned young stock. It provides farmers with more coverage in one application.
Alleva Animal Health is proudly New Zealand owned and operated, ensuring products are designed specifically for New Zealand farmers.
